Preconception
Care

In 2006, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released a report to improve reproductive health outcomes.

Despite efforts to improve outcomes and reduce infant and maternal mortality and morbidity, significant disparities still exist between the United States and European counties and among racial and ethnic groups in the United States. According to the CDC and the WHO, incorporating preconception counseling as routine care continues to be an effective strategy to reduce these disparities.

What is preconception care?

This is an opportunity to identify and discuss risk factors before conception. When risk and suboptimal health is known, it affords the family control to minimize those risks and improve pregnancy outcomes.

  • Offer screening tests for you and your partner

  • Offer dietary and nutritional advice
