My Story
I am a student at Commonsense Childbirth School of Midwifery. My interest in birth began when my close friends and sisters began having children and sharing their hopes, fears, and experiences with me. As I read Ina May Gaskin’s Complete Guide to Childbirth and Spiritual Midwifery and compared the homebirth stories to the hospital experiences of my friends, I felt called to fill a gap in maternity care in my home community. I want to foster an environment where people feel safe, loved, and relaxed during labor so that a sense of accomplishment rather than victimhood flavors memories of birth experiences. I want to increase access to this kind of care in Rhode Island, my home state. I started attending births as a doula in 2022. Before starting my training, I taught elementary school on St. Croix in the USVI for 2 years. I enjoy exploring woods, rivers, and shorelines, gardening, playing chess, social dancing, playing in musical ensembles, and spiritual communion.
